Stacey Mullen's verdict: three stars
It's not everyday you go to a rock show and witness the lead singer of the band help a fan propose.
But that's exactly what happened when Nickelback took to centre stage at Glasgow's hottest 'new' music venue, the Hydro.
Frontman Chad Kroeger made a couple's night one they will never forget after he spotted a sign asking 'Katie' for her hand in marriage.
Perhaps it was Kroeger's own nuptials to fellow Canadian singer Avril Lavigne earlier this year that had got him in the mood for romance, but he decided to stop the show to help the groom-to-be out, and a delighted Katie said yes.
He said: "That a boy, you romantic buddy! I love it! Welcome to the club."
But the fans were here to see a show, and that's exactly what they got, with plenty of rock and stunts to boot.
From downing shots on stage to using a lot of language not friendly enough to print, the band certainly proved they are bona fide rockstars.
The night kicked off with Christian rock band Skillet and lead singer John Cooper was an instant hit with the audience when he spoke about his love for Scotland.
He quoted an adapted lined from his favourite movie Braveheart, perhaps poignantly on the same day the Scottish Government released their guide to independence.
He said: "They can take our lives but they can never take our rock and roll."
And it was Nickelback who proved exactly that when they took to the stage and an excited Chad Kroeger complained that it had been too long since their last show in the city.
The show, however, really got started when the band belted out the radio friendly hit Photographs, and it was on this track that the vocals shone.
The consistency of Kroeger's instantly recognisable voice throughout makes it easy to see why the group have sold in the region of 50 million albums worldwide.
Other highlights included Rockstar, and the lesser known rock ballad Lullaby.
A cover of Elton John's Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting gave the band's Ryan Peake a moment to shine on stage, proving he is equally capable of carrying the frontman role.
But it was breakthrough hit How You Remind Me that topped off the night. Let's face it, how could it not? It is a rock anthem.
