Verdict: four stars
A night of Lionel Richie with all the hits all night long is an appealing invitation to many music fans.
The singer is first and foremost Mr Motown having started his career out with the Commodores and lasting way beyond that golden era.
But more than that he is the man behind the music which kicked off endless first dances and provided the soundtrack to loved-up couples starting their families.
A Lionel hit sparks a memory for most which is why his fans turned up in their droves to watch him in action at Glasgow's SSE Hydro tonight.
The show kicked off with a VT showing the 65-year-old through the years and it set the mood perfectly for his dramatic appearance as the star proclaimed, "Hello, is it me you're looking for?"
Screams ensued and he quickly drowned them out with the upbeat track All Around The World before the classic Penny Lover.
"Do you realise what this night represents?" the singer teased before joking, "Glasgow is one thing, but Glasgow on a Friday night."
And from that point it was clear Lionel knew his audience.
Crooning into Easy, the singer's unique voice was on full display - it was utter perfection and a joy to experience. There are not many singers who sound as good as what Lionel does live and it is perhaps the reason why he has had a career most in showbiz can only dream of.
Add to that lyrics in songs like Ballerina Girl - written as a tribute to his daughter Nicole - which are so emotive - you can hear why everyone loves Lionel.
From the fans who appreciated him in the 70s to a younger generation who learned the music through their parents, Lionel has mass appeal and with an on-stage persona that is bursting with life - and some humour thrown in - Richie is one of the few entertainers who gives his all on stage.
He even makes the audience give their all, encouraging them to sing the Diana Ross vocals in Endless Love - and we sounded not too bad, but then again I'm biased about my own voice.
From there the audience vocals continued to echo especially on a little know track Hello.
He left us on a high note with All Night Long and We Are The World, making a poignant point.
"I wrote this song 30 years ago to the month, with Michael Jackson, and 30 years later the world has not changed."
He might not be able to change the world but he can change a live concert experience and make it something which is exceptional.
And on that note, if you feel you missed out it won't be long before he returns to Scotland with a show at Edinburgh Castle on Wednesday, July 22, a fitting setting for Motown royalty wouldn't you agree?
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
