SWIFTLY following the city's Jazz & Blues festival, this Saturday sees Edinburgh's Blues & Rock Festival at the Corn Exchange, headlined by the current line-up of Canvey Island's Dr Feelgood. Compered by stalwarts of the year-round Edinburgh Blues Club, members will gain admission for a reduced rate for a programme that starts at 2pm. The club's own season kicks off on September 2 with Robbie Hill & The Deke McGee Band. Stevie Nimmo Trio and Kirk Fletcher follow later in the month and shows by Red Butler, Ian Siegal Band, and Guy Davis are booked for October and November

INCHYRA Arts Club, in Perthshire, continues to attract prominent musicians to its home in the smartly reappointed byre just outside the village of Glencarse on the A90 between Perth and Dundee. San Antonio songwriter Stephanie Urbina Jones calls into Inchyra between appearing at the Tartan Heart Festival at Belladrum in Beauly and playing a series of dates in Texas. Jones, who wrote Craig Wayne Boyd’s Billboard Country Chart number one My Baby’s Got A Smile On Her Face, among other successes, forsook here backroom role on her grandmother’s deathbed instruction to become a voice for Latino people. She’s duetted with Willie Nelson and became the first independent female artist to occupy the number one spot in the Texas Music Chart with her song Shaking Things Up. She plays Inchyra on Wednesday, August 10.
