THE Kazakhstan ambassador to the UK has visited Aggreko’s generator manufacturing plant in Dumbarton as part of a three-day visit to Scotland.

Erzhan Kazykhanov has also spent time meeting with businesses, politicians and academics in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Aggreko already operates in Kazakhstan’s rapidly developing oil and gas sector with the temporary power provider seeing potential to expand further into minerals and petrochemicals.

The company also hopes to support the national energy grid in the central Asian republic.

Ambassador Kazykhanov said: “It’s clear from the size and scale of the Dumbarton facility how this plant forms the foundation of Aggreko’s position as a true British manufacturing and export success story.

“I look forward to the onward development of Aggreko’s operations in Kazakhstan.”

Aggreko’s generators are built in Dumbarton then put to use around the world providing temporary power for a wide range of functions from industry and utility to sporting events and music festivals.

The Herald: Aggreko has issued a profit warning.

Volker Schulte, director of manufacturing and technology at Aggreko, said: “Kazakhstan holds huge potential so [this] has been a great opportunity to further cement relationships and demonstrate Aggreko’s absolute commitment to quality and innovation, and the skill, experience and passion of our local workforce.”

Mr Kazykhanov, who speaks Russian, English and Arabic, has served in a variety of diplomatic roles including as ambassador to Austria and permanent representative to the United Nations.

Prior to taking up the UK post he was assistant to the president of Kazakhstan and had also served as minister of foreign affairs.
