CCTV specialist IndigoVision has laid off a small number of hardware engineers as it builds capacity in its software team.

The Edinburgh-based company, whose video systems have been used at events including the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, said it was increasing its focus on its video management software, which allows clients to remotely monitor sites over the internet. IndigoVision also supplies cameras, recorders and other equipment.

“We’ve taken resource from hardware and are moving it into software,” said IndigoVision chief executive Marcus Kneen. “We moved our hardware manufacture to the Far East nine years ago.

“Scotland has a long tradition of excellence in software, therefore we’re expanding our software team.”

With the creation of new software roles, Mr Kneen said a net number of about four hardware engineers had been laid off.

The company had suffered a loss in the first half of 2015 but had returned to profitability in the second half, Mr Kneen added. He said the loss had been due to the low oil price and commodities market hitting clients including Australian mine owners.

In December, IndigoVision said it expected its first half sales decline of 29 per cent to slow to 18 per cent in the second half.
