Wallets Marts had 946 store cattle forward in Castle Douglas on Monday when heifers sold to 241.6p per kg and averaged 211.2p (+6.4p on the fortnight), while bullocks peaked at 297.7p and levelled at 224p (+10.7p).

The firm went on to sell 129 prime hoggs at the same venue yesterday to a top of £89 per head and 181.5p per kg to average 156p (-18.3p on the week), while a pen of 8 prime lambs fetched £90 and 173p.

There were also 162 cast sheep forward that were easier on the week with ewes selling to £95 for Texels and £70 for Blackfaces.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 7 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 225p and an average of 216.4p, while a prime bullock fetched 170p and a prime bull made 164p.

In the rough ring 33 beef cows averaged 124.2p and 67 dairy cows levelled at 87.9p. Thirteen clean OTM cattle averaged 141.5p and 5 bulls levelled at 115.4p.

A small show of 7 dairy cattle sold to £1050 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £791.66.
