TIGA, the trade association for the UK video games industry, has called for a Scottish Video Games Fund to improve studios’ access to finance. It also wants a Growth Accelerator Programme to promote commercial advice and investor readiness programmes to games developers. In a manifesto ahead of the Holyrood elections, TIGA says the industry is a success story providing 1050 creative jobs in 97 companies, over 11 per cent of UK companies and almost 10per cent of headcount. But over half of UK games businesses are being held back by lack of capital, and the industry is struggling with skills shortages.
