DAYSOFT, the Blantyre-based online seller of daily disposable contact lenses has seen profits fall by 13 per cent to £1.5 million after investing in substantial re-organisation of its manufacturing processes, and equipment upgrades.

The company said these investments would begin to benefit the business in 2016. Daysoft had earlier welcomed a decision by the General Optical Council (GOC) in May this year that noted there is not currently any evidence of patients suffering direct harm as a result of substitution lenses, such as those offered by Daysoft.

After complaints from major lense manufacturers, a GOC investigation said there was no evidence that cheaper brands posed a danger to health – Daysoft lenses retail at a fraction of the prices charged by major branded manufacturers.

Revenue grew 4.7 per cent to £10.8m in 2015 and the company noted in documents filed at Companies House that significant consumer sales growth was offset by a reduced business to business sales.

The company has also reduced costs by integrating all its Jersey-based fulfilment operations to Blantyre.
