Tartan week, New York’s annual celebration of all things Scottish, has launched with a party and fashion show featuring Hollywood celebrities and some of Scotland’s biggest sporting names.

The event, at the Liberty Theatre in Times Square included catwalk appearances from rugby stars Richie Gray and Thom Evans, and American actors Jill Hennessy (Law and Order) and Matthew Settle (Gossip Girl).

Model Kelly Brook, Miss Scotland Jennifer Reoch, entrepreneur Sir Tom Hunter and former First Minister Lord Jack McConnell also attended.The party was raising funds for the Cash For Kids campaign, run by Radio Clyde, and US war veterans' charity The Wounded Warrior Project, and had a dress code of "New York cocktail attire with a Scottish accent" with guests encouraged to don their kilts and trews.

Glasgow Warriors lock Richie Gray wore a Scotland rugby shirt with a charcoal kilt and matching socks, while Thom Evans, who is training as a track sprinter after his rugby-playing career was cut short by injury, appeared topless, in a kilt in shades of grey and camel.

Among the items on sale were a kilt donated by Sean Connery, a pair of trews made for Donald Trump, a dress worn by actress Andie MacDowell and golfing plus-fours made for golfer Sam Torrance.
