LINGERIE entrepreneur Michelle Mone is to become a Tory peer, according to reports last night.

Sources who made the claim in a newspaper said the prominent Glasgow businesswoman was “delighted and thrilled” to be joining the House of Lords.

The former Ultimo Bras boss told the news personally in a phone call from Prime Minister David Cameron, the report in The Sun claimed.

Ms Mone supported Labour until 2009, when she switched to the Conservatives over Gordon Brown's handling of the economy and his plan to introduce a 50p top rate of income tax.

She was also vocal in her support for the Union in the run up to last year's independence referendum, saying she would move to England if Scotland became independent.

The 43-year-old, who already holds the OBE, left school at 15 with no qualifications and built her global lingerie empire from scratch.

Mr Cameron revealed last week he wants to appoint more Tory peers to parliament’s second chamber.

A source said: “Michelle is thrilled and delighted. She proves strong, independent women in business have a vital role to play in our economy.

“And she will bring something new to the stuffy Lords. It needs shaking up.”

The mother of three met her husband Michael at 17, got engaged at 18 and was pregnant at 19.

The couple began their business in 1996 and launched the first Ultimo bra, with its gel-filled “chicken fillet” padding, in 1999.

In November 2014, Ms Mone reduced her stake in Ultimo Brands International in a deal with partner MAS Holidings, and bought fake tan company UTan
