Human remains found in a Fife park have been identified as those of a missing local man.

Wayne Fleming, 39, from Glenrothes, was the subject of an extensive missing persons inquiry and was last seen near his home in March.

The human remains were found in dense woodlands in the town's Riverside Park on Tuesday.

Detective Sergeant Sean Ferrier said: "We have now been able to identify the remains found in Glenrothes on Tuesday as Wayne Fleming.

"Officers have been in contact with Mr Fleming's family since the discovery of the remains and we continue to offer our support to them during this very sad time.

"We have also informed the families of other local missing men from the Glenrothes area to make them aware of this development."

Police are treating the death as unexplained and inquiries are continuing.
