A teenage boy was battered, stamped on and robbed during a terrifying attack in a plush city suburb.
The 15-year-old was attacked by a man and woman - who are believed to be in their 40s - in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire.
British Transport Police said the boy's mobile phone was also stolen.
The attack happened at Patterton station at around 11.30pm on Saturday night.
Detectives said the victim was travelling with a group of friends on the 11.05pm Glasgow Central to Neilston service.
When he got off the train at Patterton, the couple punched him from behind and stamped on as he lay on the ground.
He sustained facial injuries and an injury to his eye.
Police said the attackers are described as being a man and woman in their 40s.
Detective Constable Ryan Tierney, the officer in charge of the inquiry, has appealed for information.
He said: "This would have been a busy service and I am aware there was an altercation between the group of younger boys and a group of older people shortly before the assault took place at Patterton.
"Anyone who was on the train and has information regarding those involved who remained on until it arrived at Neilston at 11.40pm is urged to get in touch as a matter of urgency."
Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 555 111 or text 61016 – quoting reference B7 of 5/10/2015.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
