TWO thugs left a motorist for dead after launching an attack on him after he took the wrong turning as he drove home from watching a boxing match on TV.

Alan Clark, 20, and a 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were part of a gang who dragged council worker Robert Campbell from his car in Glasgow.

Mr Campbell, who returning home at 1.30am after watching the Carl Froch v George Groves title fight at a friend's house, was repeatedly punched and kicked and stabbed him seven times after the keys were removed from the ignition.

One stab pierced an artery close to Mr Campbell's heart.

His life was only saved because police drove him straight to hospital in their van. If they had waited for an ambulance to arrive he could have died.

When Mr Campbell said when he opened his eyes again he saw police and asked them: "Am I going to die."

A jury at the High Court in Glasgow a jury yesterday convicted Clark and the 17-year-old of attempting to murder 32-year-old Mr Campbell in Speirshall Terrace in Yoker in June last year while acting with others

As Clark was found guilty he began to bawl and shout at the jury and tore off his suit jacket and threw it down. Some jurors looked shell-shocked as Clark screamed "I'm f***ing innocent, it's a miscarriage of justice."

He was taken down to the cells and the rest of the proceedings were held in his absence.

Clark has previous convictions for violence, including a racially motivated assault.

Judge Lord Armstrong told the 17-year-old: "You have been convicted of an extremely serious, grave, callous and cowardly crime."

Both men were remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.
