A pensioner is suing a golf club after a stray ball hit him on the head leaving him seriously injured.

Terry Gosling was knocked unconscious and spent three days in hospital after he was struck outside his home in June.

The army veteran is now taking legal action against Alford Golf Club where a Gents Open was being hosted on the day of the accident.

The 75-year-old ended up at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary shortly after returning home from an annual Armed Forces Day procession in the city.

Golf club bosses have now taken steps to reduce the risk of balls going off the course in Aberdeenshire.

Club captain Gavin Chalmers sent a letter out to all members stating: "As a result of a stray golf ball during play in the Gents Open, a resident of Lang Stracht was seriously injured and required treatment in hospital.

"Immediately following this event, the committee has already taken numerous steps and is investigating several other measures to minimise risk to persons on and off the course."

Mr Gosling refused to comment on the case yesterday.
