ScotRail train schedules have been hit by a series of delays and disruptions due to a lack of staff.

A "shortage of train crew" was given as the reason for a host of changes to timetables on Sunday.

Many services included extra stations although some were cancelled altogether in the disruption which affected more than 50 services.

RMT Scottish secretary Mick Hogg has blamed the disruption on ScotRail not employing enough staff.

He said: “The Scottish Government is allowing [ScotRail parent firm] Abellio to run a seven-day service that relies on people working overtime.

"There has been no instruction from the union not to work overtime, but people are angry and frustrated at the threats to remove staff from trains."

The Herald:

ScotRail said the crew shortage was the result of a "number of factors" including sickness and holiday cover.

It said it had worked hard to limit the impact on our customers by adding additional stops to some services, and by sourcing replacement buses.
