An elderly pedestrian knocked down in Aberdeenshire at the weekend has died.

Mary Donald, 89, was crossing a bridge on the A920 South Road in Ellon on Saturday morning when she was hit by a car.

She was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where she died from her injuries.

Sergeant Rob Warnock said: "First and foremost, our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Mary, who was well-known in the Ellon area.

"Enquiries are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information who hasn't yet come forward to contact Police Scotland on 101.''

The 65-year-old female driver of the Peugeot 208 was not injured in the incident.
