TOM Dolan renews a common jibe that Nationalists are dwelling in the past (Letters, February 24 ).

This seems a very odd insult to level against people who are constantly looking to Scotland's future.

The problem for Scottish Unionists is quite simple. They have no plan for Scotland's future (other than remaining supine) and have no means of implementing a plan even if they had one. This may be the reason why many Unionist correspondents seem to be living in the past themselves. I am not sure whether Tom Dolan's quotation from Burns means what he thinks it does but whether Burns was a Unionist or a Nationalist seems to me to be wholly irrelevant today.
