I WAS sorry to read of the rather serious burns suffered by Katy Emslie when her power bar exploded (“Telephone charger fire leaves student burned”, The Herald, July 28). I trust all will be well. I was even more sorry to learn it was an EE power bar. I have to inform her that in my experience, that company does not offer compensation.

I have been in dispute with EE over a bill that was paid in August 2009 (on time) but has only been acknowledged as paid in June 2015; on other words, last month. In the intervening period my name has appeared on debt registers (unknown to me till earlier this year - all for £36).

It has taken a multitude of letters to a variety of organisations – all for £36 which I didn't owe – to clear my name. I approached EE for redress but I was told it "does not offer compensation". In my view, appropriate redress should be made. Also, there should be redress to cover time spent correting errors that were made in my case.

I can only hope that Ms Emslie fares better.
