I COULD not agree more with Rosemary Goring (“Deep-fried Mars bars sell us short in more ways than one”, The Herald, April 26). We certainly have the ability to laugh at ourselves – in our Glasgow culture, in particular; unfortunately the “No Mean City” image persists in some quarters. And our in-bred inferiority complex.

However, the city has indeed moved forward: think Garden Festival 1988, City of Culture 1990, and, more recently, the Commonwealth Games 2014; not forgetting, of course, our Charles Rennie Mackintosh heritage, and the recently reported plans for the expansion of the School of Art.

We in Glasgow should, in fact, be patting ourselves on the back: we have achieved much to be proud of.
