IT is interesting that the First Minister is now warning that the vexed issue of hard or soft Brexit could probably end up in the Supreme Court to decide a constitutional wrangle (“Bosses told political battle to become constitutional one”, The Herald, September 28).

Nicola Sturgeon contends that Theresa May does not have a mandate for a hard Brexit. That may or not be the case, but our First Minister seems to be ignoring the likely response of the EU Commission and the Council of Ministers once Article 50 is invoked. If there is no concession on freedom of movement the EU could prove to be implacable in its insistence on a hard Brexit.
