SCOTLAND are set to announce a lucrative £1 million deal with Tennent’s ahead of their massive Euro 2016 double header with Georgia and Germany.

Tennent’s will become the official beer partner of the national team in a three year agreement which will run until the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

It continues on a 40 year involvement between the best-selling lager in the country and Scottish football and underlines the recent success of Gordon Strachan’s side.

Scotland is in third place in Group D behind only Poland and World Cup holders Germany after six matches and has a chance to qualify automatically for the finals in France next year.

Strachan’s side can take a huge step towards qualifying for their first finals since France ’98 in the games against Georgia in Tbilisi on Friday and Germany in Glasgow on Monday.

Vauxhall will continue to be the main sponsors of Scotland – the car manufacturer backs the senior national squad as well as all of the age-group squads and the women’s national squads.

Strachan will meet up with his players at their training base at the luxury Mar Hall hotel outside Bishopton to begin preparations for the Georgia game today.

The 58-year-old, who will be without Stuart Armstrong for the matches after the Celtic midfielder pulled out with a back injury, believes his side can top their section.

He said: “The plan is to get through but I do believe that anybody in the top three just now – and I still think Ireland can qualify – can win it.

“Before we started I thought Germany would win it. They’re the world champions and they qualify for every tournament they play for – I think it was the 1960s, the last time they didn’t.

“With the brilliant form of Poland and our performances and the Republic’s performances – their draw over there – it’s made it a bit more difficult for Germany.

“Also because of the transition Germany have made as world champions, with a lot of people retiring and changing the team about. That has affected them.”
