LYNSEY Sharp smashed the Scottish indoor 800 metres record last night in taking victory at the David Hemery meeting in Boston. The former European champion ran 2.00:30 to break Laura Muir’s existing national best and move into fifth place in the UK all-time rankings. It was a stadium record for the Boston University track.

She ran solo, through 400m in under 57 sec despite a cold, and finished unchallenged for what ranks as the world’s second fastest time this year.

Next weekend she faces strong US opposition at New York’s Millrose Games.
