TEEN sensation Dan Bewley put Glasgow Tiigers to the sword - racking up 13 points for Somerset to stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League.

The 17-year-old Edinburgh star, who was guesting for the Rebels just days after producing heroics in a Tigers racejacket in their away win at Rye House, won three races including victories over home favourites Richard Lawson and Rene Bach.

And despite a mid-meeting reprise from the home team - who were eight behind at one stage - the table-toppers left as 46-44 winners.

Team boss Stewart Dickson admitted it was a major blow to his side's bid to finish in the top two going into the play-offs.

He said: "Unfortunately they were jumping out the starts a lot quicker than us in the first part of the meeting.

"We got it back but I don't think the track grade and the disruption after heat 10 helped us - we lost our momentum there.

"You look at the scorechart and it's obvious to anybody that Dan Bewley's 13 points won them the match. In saying that, we didn't ride as well as we normally can either and we threw a couple of points away here and there.

"To come from eight behind and go six up - a 14-point swing - we should've kept it going. Some of the home riders said that gate one was no good, yet Somerset picked it in heat 15, they got a 5-1 off it in heat 13 and Richie Worrall won off it in heat 12.

"It's a big blow - I'm not going to kid on that it's not. It's a big dent to our hopes of getting into the top two.

"It's disappointing but it's one defeat at home, our first for a long time, and I'm certainly not going to criticise the riders. They're trying things, they're doing different things, and it wasn't through lack of effort.

"No two matches are ever the same and I'm sure we haven't seen the last of them, but we know we need to do better."

Both Bewley and Worrall came within one tenth of a second of matching the track record, while Josh Grajczonek's heat one time was only 0.2 away.

The Tigers next face Bewley's Edinburgh on Friday night in the second leg of their KO Cup tie, defending a 24-point lead, with no meeting on next Sunday.

Tigers scorers: Richie Worrall 10, Aaron Summers 9, Nike Lunna 7+2, Rene Bach 6, Richard Lawson 6, Coty Garcia 5+1, Danny Ayres 1+1.
