Kevin Thomson has left Tranent Juniors after just three games, with manager Gary Small revealing the former Scotland internationalist could not juggle his playing commitments with his desire to build a media career.

The 31-year-old joined 'The Belters' just six weeks ago on a 12-month deal that was expected to see him combine playing for the Forester Park with coaching at the East Premier League club.

However, the former Hibernian, Rangers and Dundee midfielder has already moved on and Small, who had described Thomson's capture as a 'real coup' and one that would excite the whole of Junior football, insists it was an amicable parting of the ways.

He said: "Whether it's Kevin Thomson or whoever, it's always disappointing to lose good players. But, from the discussions we had, it was the best decision for both parties and it was amicable.

"Kevin's made no secret of the fact he wants to get into the media and we had a chat recently because he had been asked to appear on BT Sport for their coverage of the Dundee-Rangers game, but it clashed with our game.

"I don't want to be standing in his way. He could be building a career in the media.

"It was good publicity for the club and great that we could attract a player of Kevin's calibre, but we wish him well and move on."
