JOE Garner, the Rangers striker, last night conceded the Ibrox club must start turning possession into goals if they want to halt their four game winless run in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Garner, the £1.5 million summer signing from Preston North End, was helpless to prevent his side from slumping to a 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen at Pittodrie yesterday.

Mark Warburton’s side dominated long spells of the game against Derek McInnes’s team, but only managed to net through an Andy Halliday penalty late on.

The Glasgow club are now in seventh spot in the top flight table after managing to win just two of their opening nine league games.

"It is very frustrating,” said the English striker. “I thought we played really well. The lads are disappointed. We need to start turning performances into wins.

“On another day we would have gone in 2-0 up at half-time and it would probably have been a different game. We have got to take the positives out of the game.

"The gaffer spoke about that in the dressing room afterwards. We have played well and it is tough to take, very difficult to take, that we lost.

“Aberdeen finished second last year, but we have dominated the game, especially the first half. We were unfortunate not to come in with a lead. The goal is obviously massive for them coming as it did so soon after half-time.

“Once they get the goal they sit back even more and it is more difficult. This is a physical league where teams sit behind the ball, sit back against Rangers and try and nick a goal. That is something we need to look at as a team.

"We need to turn all the possession and the good football into goals. I think it is something we have to work on and will work on this week.”

Garner admitted the Rangers players were unhappy that James Tavernier was booked for a legitimate challenge on Jonny Hayes late on - especially when James Maddison netted the winner for Aberdeen from the resulting free-kick.

"We have got to be very frustrated really,” he said. “We got back into the game at 1-1. Tav has made a good tackle, the referee has given a foul and fair play to the lad he has put it in the top corner."

“We have watched it back in there and it is clearly a good tackle. He has got the ball. But the referee has made his decision and we have got to get on with it. We have got to take the positives out of the game and go again.

"I think you could all see the clubs don't really like each other and the fans don't really like each other. It is not really our job to get involved in that. We have got to try and concentrate on the game. It is just frustrating."
