World champion Josh Kerr has been named scottishathletics' 4J "Athlete of the Year" at the governing body's annual awards dinner.

Kerr won the world 1500m title with a stunning run in Budapest in August in a season that also saw him finish in third place in the world 1500m rankings.

The 26-year-old from Edinburgh beat off competition from fellow World Championship finalists Laura Muir, Jemma Reekie and Neil Gourley as well as mountain runner, Scout Adkin to pick up the sport's top award.

"This caps off a really good year for me and it’s always nice to end it with an award, and one that I’ve never won before," Kerr said.

"Scottish athletics is currently in such a good spot so to collect this award means a lot to me.

"I’m in the US training away to get ready for the Olympics next year so we can keep pushing the boundaries for Scottish athletics."

Sammi Kinghorn, who was crowned world T53 100m champion at the World Para-Athletics Championships in July as well as picking up three other medals too, was named scottishathletics' 4J "Para Athlete of the Year" while the under 20 award went to distance runner, Natasha Phillips.
